Canteen financial statements and receipts and disbursements journals, 1968-[ongoing].

Each prison in the system operates a canteen where prisoners may purchase supplies using money they have on deposit. This series consists of financial statements or receipts and disbursement journal pages prepared at each facility with a canteen. Manually prepared journals are sent to Montgomery for entry into the computer's accounting system. A few institutions have terminals and enter the information directly into the computer system. Information available in these records includes debits and credits to the canteen account, any interest earned, business or account funds that were debited or credited to, assets and liabilities, revenue generated and other accounting information gathered for the records. These items are maintained together in chronological order.
